I already posted my

off roader project that I bought on Saturday, but yesterday evening I also bought a 2000 Volvo V40 for $400. This was a weird weekend.

So the Volvo doesn’t pass smog, which is why I got it for so cheap. It’s just failing the O2 sensor readiness check, so it should hopefully be a quick and easy fix, and I’ll be driving it for a while to enjoy the 28 mpg and save some miles on my 300ZX. Once I get the new engine and air suspension figured out in the Audi, I’ll be selling the Z, and might just keep the Volvo as a daily for a while.
I just can’t believe how good of shape the Volvo is in. Everything works, it’s super clean, and runs and drives beautifully. It is unfortunately an automatic, but the 1.9T pulls surprisingly strong. It’s definitely not fast, but it’s quick enough to be entertaining, and ultra comfortable as a commuter.
Somehow through this whole thing, my GF was 100% supportive of buying both wagons. I better throw a ring on her finger quick, this is too good to be true...

Congratulations on buying a (probably) Dutch built, Japanese/Dutch designed, Swedish car. The biggest reason why they are dying here in the Netherlands seems to be rust, you certainly would have that problem in California.

Yes, it’s quite a nice Volvobishi! Or is it a Mitsolvo? Vitsubisho?
Luckily rust isn’t really much of a worry here, I didn’t notice any yet. Gotta love this California weather!

First, I think expedition all road is awesome. There is a nonrunning Allroad near me that I’ve thought would be a fun project(I was thinking just simplify it with a NA engine and coil suspension once the bags go).
Second, these V40s seem nice and undervalued compared to similar year v70s. Nice find.

Thanks man! I’m pretty stoked on both right now. The Audi is going to be quite the project...

Hah! Nice!
Good looking V50, in my opinion that is right when Volvos started really looking good in a modern way — continuing on to the gorgeous modern ones.
